Things I Explain

Between 2011 - 2017 I wrote and produced over 100 animated videos through What Now? Exactly! — the animation studio I co-founded with Bryan Zug and Andrew Imamura. That website and YouTube page is no longer active, but here are a few of my favorite projects.

Promo Videos for Social Media

I ran an animated video studio, so I made an animated video job listing! Shared this across my personal and professional social networks and ended up hiring just the right person. I wrote, storyboarded, voiced, and produced in collaboration with an illustrator (Andrew Imamura) and animator (Aaron Bishop).

Atlassian Product Explainer Video, 2011

During a time when software was moving to the cloud, Atlassian’s JIRA Studio was moving to the cloud as Atlassion OnDemand. My job was to explain how taking their award winning software development suite would work as an SaaS, showcasing the power of their industry-leading product while remaining informal, entertaining, and slightly irreverent. As in, “Sweet Jesus, that’s so cheap! I can’t afford to not go buy that right now!”

I collaborated with the client, wrote the script, produced the video, and managed the creative team. As managing partner, I also handled the sales and business end.

Skyfont Product Explainer Video, 2012

While in beta mode, SkyFont wanted to get the word out that designers could “try on” fonts in their design drafts before they spent a bunch of money and time installing fonts they might not use. The client wanted to communicate that by using their product, designers would feel free to create and express themselves uninhibited by business and budget decisions.

I collaborated with the client, wrote the script, produced the video, and managed the creative team. As managing partner, I also handled the sales and business end.

CareZone Product Explainer Video, 2011

CareZone was early to the “medical coordination” app genre, focusing on families who cared for their elderly parents alongside the medical needs of their own immediate family. It was important to the client that this video came across with empathy and assurance that “we’ve been there, we get it.” Their inspiration was the tone and storying telling style of the Kaiser Permanente ads voiced by Alison Janny.

I did the voice over on this project. I also collaborated with the client, wrote the script, produced the video, and managed the creative team. As managing partner, I handled the sales and business end.
